Happy Valentines Day!
E and I went on Friday night for dinner to our favorite place. We brought along a tasty red wine that had four different grapes: Pinot Noir, Lagrein, Petit Verdot and I think Cabernet Savignon. It was very flavorful, fruity and strong. I had never had the Lagrein grape before and trying blends is fun. Dinner was delicious! I had a giant steak (something I rarely eat) but they put a blue cheese butter on top of it and it was divine!
I worked most of Saturday but we then we made mushroom risotto together. It turned out pretty well considering it was my first try. We put peas in at the end and they were delicious and I added a little sage, rosemary, and romano cheese to give it more flavor. We don't do much for the V day except go to dinner and share a good bottle of wine. But he got me two tasty chocolate bars and I got him some super strong magnets for his work desk, a little Pontiki to play with and put on his desk and peanut butter cups. I'm not that into the commercial side of the holiday but it was nice to buy a card and write out why I'm so thankful to have him in my life. He has been very supportive through all of school and of our moving for me. I feel a bit obsessed with my work sometimes and I talk about my research at home a lot! Then I feel selfish for focusing so much time and energy into that, but he never gets annoyed with me and is usually very patient. So I'm very happy that I have him. And Valentines is just one more day to remind me to be appreciative for the everyday good relationships I have (not just my spouse) but family and friends too.

i <3 steak. your early valentine's day dinner sounds super tasty. i don't think i've tried risotto on my own yet. i'm still too intimidated. i think of the top chef contestants getting screamed at for having bad risotto and i back off. one day.

Sounds delicious. I love blended wines. I'm sorry but I think blue cheese butter should be illegal. :)
