catch up
I was away for the weekend and it was great! We left on Thursday to meet some friends who had a conference in Las Vegas. We got back last night around 2 am. I am still pretty tired but awake now. As I'm adjusting the time change plus daylight savings time made it a bigger time change. The strip is such an oddity, it is so flat there and dry and then out of nowhere tall buildings all in a row. A bit like a Disneyland for grownups. It was nice to be in warm weather though. We walked the whole strip the first day and I got a nice blister, E got a double one on his toe. It is just a crazy town but I enjoyed seeing our friends and eating some really great dinners. I had bacon wrapped pork medallions at a French place, roasted chicken at an Italian place and some wonderful chinquiles at a southwestern grill. All delicious. Plus we tried a Pinot Grigio from France which had more pear and tartness than the Oregon Pino Gris I'm used too. It was fun to get out of the cold and snow for a few days.
Today driving around town was so nice. I actually had cement to drive on instead of 2-4 inches of ice and ruts! Driving was smooth and enjoyable again. It is going to warm up here soon and I can't wait for the rest of the dirt snow piles to melt. Driving home tonight from work it was still light out a little after 7 and I really enjoyed that as well. I picked up groceries and made myself a French dip. E can have the rest tomorrow before he heads to his class and I might meet my ladies for a dinner or a drink.
On top of all this I had a productive and positive meeting with my adviser. I laid out my proposal in outline format and we discussed the short term and longer term plans. Now that we have the equipment that works I know I can actually collect the data I've been trying to for so long! I'm thrilled because for the first time I think she realized I have a plan, I've been working on it and I'm actually further along than she thought. Plus she liked my research plan and thinks it is feasible so I'm excited that this whole thing is really possible and I might actually finish this degree.
Lastly, I wanted to write about some of the books I just read for fun but I will leave that until later.
